Guest Speakers
Nicola Carragher
I’m delighted to be invited as a guest speaker for the upcoming Liverpool Sportswoman Lunch on behalf of the Owen McVeigh Foundation. The foundation is such a prominent and respected charity, already supported by so many wonderful people, and I’m truly honoured to be involved. I really hope I can add something meaningful to the day.
I’ve always been someone who stayed in the background, focused on raising my children and keeping family life at the centre of everything I do. But a few years ago, I felt the need to challenge myself in a completely new way. I set out to complete all the World Major Marathons in a single year to raise money for Alder Hey Children’s Hospital — despite not being a runner or an athlete.
That experience showed me what can happen when you push beyond your comfort zone for a cause that matters. It inspired me to keep supporting children’s charities and to encourage other mums, and anyone really, to take on challenges that stretch them while making a real difference.
Thank you again to the Owen McVeigh Foundation for inviting me to be part of such a special event. I’m really looking forward to the lunch and to supporting the incredible work the charity continues to do.
Molly McCann
We’re excited to announce our next speaker for the Liverpool Sportswoman’s Lunch: MMA star Molly McCann (“Meatball Molly”).
Molly is an English boxer and former mixed martial artist. She is a former Cage Warriors Flyweight Champion and previously competed in the women’s Flyweight division of the UFC, known for her explosive style in the cage and for proudly representing Liverpool on the global stage.
Molly said: “I’m delighted to be invited to this amazing event for what is sure to be a fabulous day , supporting the Owen McVeigh Foundation , a charity which does so much for those who need it in and around our city.”
We’re thrilled to have not just one, but two incredible women speaking at this year’s Liverpool Sportswoman’s Lunch, and we’re looking forward to welcoming Molly and Nicola to #LSL2026 and raising vital funds for the Owen McVeigh Foundation.
Charity
We’re thrilled to announce that our chosen charity is the Owen McVeigh Foundation.
The Owen McVeigh Foundation is a Liverpool-based charity established by Mark and Joanne McVeigh in memory of their son Owen, who passed away from leukaemia in 2015, aged 11.
The charity supports children and their families living in Merseyside and the surrounding areas who have been diagnosed with cancer. They create unique experiences and treasured memories to help make an incredibly tough journey a little more bearable.
This local charity is close to all our hearts, and we look forward to welcoming guests on the day to raise funds in support of their work. We’re excited to announce some very special guest speakers in the coming weeks.
